‘Nightflyers’ Teaser Reveals Syfy’s George R.R. Martin Horror Series
Syfy has revealed a first look at the highly anticipated new series Nightflyers, which is basically a horror story set in space. The show is based on a 1980 novella written by Game of Thrones scribe George R.R. Martin and follows eight scientists and a telepath who embark on a mission to the edge of the solar system in the hope of making contact with alien life. Terrifying and violent events begin to take place, testing the loyalties and mental fortitude of those aboard the titular ship.
This teaser shows off the first footage from the series, as well as the massive sets. Martin himself appears in the piece, describing Nightflyers as “a haunted house story on a starship” and “Psycho in space.” That right there should be reason enough to tune in, but the production value of the show looks terrific as well.
Former Dexter showrunner and Constantine co-creator Daniel Cerone serves as showrunner on the series, and it marks another step in an exciting direction for Syfy’s rebranding. The network repositioned itself a couple years ago, hoping to move into the prestige TV era with ambitiously dark shows like The Magicians and Channel Zero. Those plays are working, and the highly anticipated Superman series Krpyton debuts this week. It’s exciting to see Syfy taking these bold leaps, and Nightflyers certainly looks like it has the potential to be a welcome addition to #PeakTV.
Check out the Nightflyers teaser below. The series stars Eoin Macken (The Night Shift), Sam Strike (EastEnders) as Thale, Maya Eshet (Teen Wolf) as Lommie, Angus Sampson (Fargo) as Rowan, Jodie Turner-Smith (The Last Ship) as Melantha Jhirl, Gretchen Mol (Boardwalk Empire) as Agatha, David Ajala (Fast & Furious 6) as Roy Eris, and Brían F. O’Byrne (Million Dollar Baby) as Auggie. Nightflyers debuts on Syfy this fall.
