Our children are not monsters , argues mom of the ISIS fighter

BBC talked with one young British woman who was recently contacted by ISIS recruiters. She preferred not to use her name, but she did talk about what first got her interested in groups others might view as radical.
It was the news about three teenage girls, gifted students in east London who slipped away in February to join ISIS.

"Why are they going?" she asked herself. "I guess that sparked a sort of curiosity."
She started tweeting stories about the three girls. She thinks that ISIS recruiters found her Snapchat account in her Twitter bio.
"It wasn't really as cliché as people think it was. It wasn't a sort of 'Hey, come join us!'" she notes. "It was more of a, "Hey sister, how are you doin'?' ... It's like a conversation with a friend. It's like a normal thing."
When the recruitment became more intense, she worried most about what joining a radical group would mean for her commitment to soccer.
"If I have three kids and a husband, am I really going to be able to continue living my passion?" she asked herself. "The thing about this [soccer] team is everyone's a family, everyone's together. You have somewhere where you are accepted, where everyone does love you. Once you have a place to go like this this, you won't even be brought to think about that kind of thing."
She now works with The Unity of Faiths Foundation, a group that fights radicalization through soccer.
In Canada, Christianne Boudreau co-founded another kind of group that works to counter extremism. It's called Mothers for Life, and it's a network for parents like her who have lost their sons and daughters to radical groups.
Boudreau's son Damian died fighting with ISIS in Syria last year. She's moving to France, and expects to find a stronger network of parents there looking to counter jihad.
"There are a lot more parents that have come open to one another, working together, supporting each other," she says. "Whereas in North America, very much there's still a stigma, everybody's holding back. They're afraid to speak out, they're afraid to reach out for help."
Boudreau says far too often parents miss the signs of radicalization, in part because popular portrayals of extremists lack nuance.
"They unfortunately look at our children as monsters, and they're not. They're normal, everyday kids that get caught up in something, make mistakes and don't realize the choices they're making," she says. "They're not all evil like what we see in the media. They're kids having emotional struggles."
When parents suspect their children are drifting toward radicalization, they should turn to others in their community for help, according to Boudreau.
"Parents shouldn't try to do this on their own," she says. "They're too emotionally connected to their children. And they can end up pushing their youth further away."

Assembly elects first female Deputy Speaker

Mrs. Felicia Bassey representing Okobo state constituency and Chair Person, House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Welfare Matters, made history by being elected as the first Deputy Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
In a statement released yesterday in Uyo, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Kufre Okon, said Bassey emerged the first female Deputy Speaker during Tuesday’s plenary, to replace the former Deputy Speaker, Mr. Effiong Bassey, representing Oron/Udung Uko state constituency, whose election was nullified last week by the Appeal Court in Abuja.

The Speaker, Mr. Onofiok Luke, who administered the oath of office on the new Deputy Speaker encouraged  her to live up to the expectation of the sixth Assembly while discharging her legislative duties.
The statement added that other members said that the position was well deserved, and expressed confidence in her ability to discharge the functions of the office to its fullest potential.

Reasons To Consider Becoming A Tech Geek

Reasons To Consider Becoming A Tech Geek

There are many careers and occupations that are known to
stand the test of time. Medical practitioners, accountants,
and teachers have existed for millennia and will probably
exist until the robocalypse. Today, we need to add computer
and information technology professionals to that list.
If you really want to get technical, computers started back
in the early 1800s. However, computers as we recognize
them today were invented over 70 years ago. They have
significantly evolved during this time, from what used to be
large, room-sized computers that would occupy as many as
1800 square feet of space, to fitting in the palms of our
hands.
Whether the roles that exist today are called computer
engineers, programmers, or database administrators, the
tech industry has now become a permanent and lucrative
industry that you should consider getting into.
1. It’s where the jobs are and will be.
Although the role of a computer engineer or computer
programmer has been changing and evolving along with
technological advancements, these careers are here to stay.
They will change and evolve over time as technology moves
further into robotics, Internet of Things, cognitive
computing, and so on, but if you are looking for an exciting
career and job security, this is the place to be.
Source: Analysis: The exploding demand for computer science
education, and why America needs to keep up – GeekWire
This chart tells us that this industry is growing very rapidly,
and by 2020 we are expecting to have a shortage of 1
million computer programmers or engineers. This type of
shortage implies several things. For one, with higher
demand than supply, employers will pay high salaries to fill
these positions. It also means that you will have more
choice in selecting what company you wish to work for.
2. The average salaries are very high compared to
other fields.
The United States Department of Labor Statistics shows a
software developer earning an average of 93K per year. And
that was in 2012. This has increased significantly over the
last few years.
Source: United States Bureau of Labor Statistics
In hot market hubs such as Silicon Valley, an entry-level
software developer will earn a starting salary of 90-100K+.
3. It is standing the test of time.
Technology companies are lasting longer than originally
thought — we now have technology companies like IBM that
have been around for over 100 years. IBM demonstrates
how a technology company adapts. For example, they’ve
moved from mostly mainframe computers to cognitive
systems like Watson, which lets companies predict health
trends or recommends trending gifts during the holidays .
If you look at our aspirations as a race, we want to have
flying cars, we want to invent teleportation, we want to
explore the universe and live on other planets and the list
goes on. All these things would not be even considered
possible without computer technology. This will continue to
drive demand for these types of careers.
4. Demand in universities continues to grow.
Universities worldwide continue to see unprecedented
growth in their computer science/engineering enrolment and
have been expanding to keep up with the demand.
“An introductory computer science course at Harvard
College broke records this fall, becoming the most-
registered-for cla$$ at the prestigious institution and
proving once again that computer science is among the
fastest-growing areas in education.” — D. Frank Smith,
Edtechmagazine
Here’s a list of the best global universities for computer
science:
1. Ma$$achusetts Institute of Technology
2. Stanford University
3. Harvard University
4. University of California—Berkeley
5. Tsinghua University
6. University of Texas—Austen
7. Nanyang Technological University
8. University of California—San Diego
9. National University of Singapore

ranked, click here .
5. You want to be rich and famous.
Many of the richest people in the world have become rich
through technology . That includes bigs names like Bill
Gates, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and many other
incredibly wealthy individuals.
As I mentioned, computer science, software development,
computer engineering, or other terms that define and
represent technological roles and careers may evolve over
time, but are clearly the foundation for the future. The
market is definitely headed that way as we advance
technology to the next level. I don’t see any signs of this
trend slowing down.

North governors condemn Pro-Biafran attacks

North governors condemn Pro-Biafran attacks

19 Northern Governors under the aegis, Northern Governors Forum, have unanimously condemned the attacks that happened during the pro-biafran protest in Onitsha, Anambra state yesterday December 2nd.

Rising from a meeting in Borno state today, the governors said Nigerians had no reason to fight themselves at this time when we should join hands to fight the number one enemy of our country which is Boko Haram. Borno state governor, Kshim Shettima who leads the group of Governors, said this in a statement he released through his media aide, Isa Gusau. The statement in part read;

"We condemn the Wednesday crisis in very strong term. We have been in touch with one another today. The Governors of major cities in the north in particular, have been in critical touch to share thoughts and we have collectively taken firm measures to ensure that the violence doesn’t spread to any part of the 19 northern States and we will also be working with our colleagues in the south to nip the crisis in the bud but we will not disclose the measures we have taken so that those who may want to take advantage of the Onitsha mayhem don’t know our strategies. However, it is surprising to the Northern States Governors Forum that any Nigerian at all can even contemplate any kind of violence when we already have serious problems of Boko Haram insurgents that are killing Muslims and Christians, killing northerners and southerners, attacking Mosques, Churches and markets, in an effort to kill all of us that do not subscribe to their interpretation of Islam. We have Boko Haram that kill Hausa, Fulani, Ibo, Yoruba, Kanuri, Ijaw and anyone they are able to come across. We thought that the existence of Boko Haram should have been enough to make all Nigerians fuse into one and fight a common enemy. It is really sad that any Nigerian can contemplate violence. We are not blaming any individual or group because there are security agencies whose job it is to safeguard lives and property and do investigations where necessary, we will not go into their duties. We beg all Nigerians to be calm and go about their duties in peace. We have got more than enough problems to worry about. We can’t afford any distraction that will shift our focus from the bigger problems of Boko Haram that has an ambition of sending the human race into extinction. We urge all Nigerians to be calm. We particularly call on all Nigerians living in the northern states not to pay attention to differences in religion and ethnicity but rather, should see each other as Nigerians with equal residential rights and fundamental human rights that include freedom to lawfully reside anywhere in Nigeria, freedom of worship, movement, trade, association, education, healthcare and other rights as provided by the Nigerian constitution. We particularly call on our youths not to allow anyone use them for any purpose because youths have suffered more than any other age category from the hands of Boko Haram insurgents and that is more than enough. Our focus should be on how to end the Boko Haram insurgency and not to be driven into any other crisis. We have suffered too much, we must say no to any crisis. As heads of Government of the 19 northern states, we will by the grace of God, do everything humanly possible to ensure that no resident, regardless of his or her ethno-religious background, is denied any of these rights. As Nigerians, we are one, we need one another and we must live as one people,”

implicating anyone in the $2.1bn arms deal - dasuki denies

Former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), has denied ever making statement implicating anyone or group in the allegation of $2billion arms purchase deal brought against him by the federal government. Dasuki, who spoke through his lawyer, Mr. Ahmed Raji, a senior advocate said he never made such statement or name anyone to EFCC and wondered ‎where the authors got their information from.
“I was with Dasuki yesterday and wish to make categorical statement that my client never made any statement of such nature or naming anybody or group in any statement. “Quote me anywhere, Dasuki has not done anything like that. It is absolutely untrue. It is the figment of the imagination of the authors aimed at creating falsehood for reasons best known to them and Nigerians shou‎ld disregard them. “They are just out to scandalise the man, bring his image and character into disrepute so that his friends and well wishers can run away from him.

They want him deserted and that will fail”, Raji said. Meanwhile, PRNigeria has gathered that not all funds in Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) are related to arm procurement as being alleged. The ONSA manages several funds for national security and other special interventions which are not related to Boko Haram or arm procurement. They include recurrent expenditures and miscellaneous expenses under Special Service Office (SSO) to fund special projects and programmes including capacity building, refreshment, travelling, office maintenance, crisis communication and supports to special causes and Non-Governmental Organisations. “Most of the figures being bandied were taken from the special funds meant for the purposes that they were spent and not on the so-called arm-deal.”

“All over the world, there are lots of expenditures of national security and sensitive matters that are not ridiculed in the Press.” During today’s proceedings in court, the federal government appointed a private legal practitioner, Mr. Oladipupo Okpeseyitan, SAN, to prosecute Dasuki. Okpeseyitan after announcing his appearance told the trial judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola that he had filed a motion for stay of execution of the ruling of the court which granted Dasuki permission to seek medical treatment. He applied to the court to put the ruling on hold pending the outcome of the appeal in the matter. Raji in his reply told the court that he had just been served with the motion in court, adding that he needed time to respond to the motion. The case has been fixed for December 8, 2015 for hearing.

Ibrahim Lamorde has
told the senate committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public
Petitions that they do not have the powers to invite him for an
investigation as he is no longer the chairman of the anti-graft
agency. The senate committee is currently investigating
allegations that Lamorde diverted N1 billion of recovered stolen
funds during his tenure.
Speaking through his Lawyer, Festus Keyamo who represented
him at the senate hearing today, Lamorde argued that it is only
a law court that can invite him for any investigation.
He said he will only honor the invitation of the senate only if he
is invited as a witness and not an accused. The Chairman of the
committee, Emmanuel Nwanyawu, told Keyamo that the
committee is not a court of law and, therefore, a lawyer cannot
appear before it on behalf of his client. He said another letter of
summons would be issued to Mr. Lamorde informing him he
must appear before the committee on November 24th.

Female Baby sellere brought to police station in Lag

Female Baby sellere brought to police station in Lag

Obotie Adesuwa, is currently in the cell of
the X-Squad Section of the Lagos State Police Command, after
she allegedly sold a one week-old baby boy who had been
brought with his mother to the police station.
It was learnt that the sergeant who is from Edo State, is
attached to the Akinpelu Police Division, where the baby boy
and her mother, Toyin, who is said to be mentally unstable, had
been brought to by a Good Samaritan.
It was learnt that the Good Samaritan, who was taking care of
the Toyin had brought her and her baby to the station after
Toyin was delivered of the baby in a psychiatric hospital.
They were reportedly brought to the police in the last week of
September, Adesuwa, who was on duty, had received the baby
but failed to document the incident.
However , on Monday, November 9, when Toyin showed up at
the station to ask for her baby, the sergeant pretended that she
didn't know her.
A police source said:
“The incident happened at the Akinpelu Police Division.
The sergeant received the report of a mentally deranged
woman and her newborn baby. But on the same
evening, she was said to have arranged for the woman
and the baby to be put inside a car and driven away by
unknown persons.
“At a junction, the baby’s mother was given N500 and
asked to alight. The car drove away with the baby. It
was on Monday, November 9, that the mother
unbelievably showed up at the station to ask for her
baby. The sergeant initially denied ever meeting her.
“The DPO was later informed, and took all of them to the
Area Commander, and then the female sergeant was
arrested. The baby has now been recovered.”
Another source, who claimed to have spoken with Adesuwa
after her arrest said:
“The mother of the baby came to ask after him about
two months after and that was when the bubble burst.
When Adesuwa denied ever knowing her, the baby’s
mother was enraged and went to report to the DPO.
“The DPO then ordered that Adesuwa be detained. That
was when she confessed to the DPO that the baby had
been taken to her village, and later sold in Port Harcourt.
The suspect, was however, able to help in recovering the
baby.
“The woman, who helped her to carry the baby to Port
Harcourt, has also been arrested. She (Adesuwa) told
us, her police friends, that it was the devil that pushed
her to commit the crime.”
The Lagos State Police Public Relatisons Officer, DSP Joe Offor,
confirmed Adesuwa’s arrest, adding that investigation was
ongoing.
He said, “The sergeant was arrested in connection with a stolen
baby boy. Investigation is ongoing.”

The Oil thieves jailed for 84 yrs

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday convicted seven men to 84 years imprisonment for illegal and unlawful dealing in 1,459 metric tonnes of petrol. The court sentenced each of the convicts to a jail term of 12 years each starting Friday after they were all found guilty of the five count charge preferred against them.
The convicts are; Adedamola Ogungbayi; Olaniran Olabode; Suraju Gasali; Moses Emmanuel; Wilson Bonsi; Okaraodi Uche and Onyeogo Happy. Apart from the jail term, Justice Abang also  ordered the forfeiture of the vessel, ‘MT Good Success’, used by the convicts in stealing the said petroleum product, as well as the recovered petroleum product to the Federal Government.

The judge also ordered the forfeiture of the sums of N66.6m and $975,000 which belonged to the convicts’ company, Hepa Global Energy Limited, domiciled with the First City Monument Bank to the Federal Government.
The convicts, were arraigned alongside their vessel and company on August 28, 2014 on five counts alongside one Padoun Jacob, who was discharged and acquitted by the court. The judge, in setting Jacob free on all the five counts, described him as a desperate job seeker, who became a victim of circumstances.

often warned against tempting fate. When you have a relationship and are getting on fairly comfortably with your partner, it’s almost fatal to the relationship to bring in a third party to live with you under any guise. That is why, no matter how repulsive we find it, male domestics continue to dip into the same pots as their masters and male partners throw caution to the wind and pant after the maids!
Love-gone-sour
Love-gone-sour
When Musibau came back from the US years back, the first person he got in touch with was Gboye, his friend of several years. I’d known them together even before they travelled abroad and when Musibau called that Gboye was throwing a welcome party for him, I gladly attended. Gboye’s wife, Rita, and the mother of their three  children, was the perfect hostess, she seemed to get on with Musibau, who she hadn’t met until his return.
When I asked Musibau what his plans were and where he was staying, Gboye cut in: “The silly man went to stay in the family home until his wife joins him with their children. I’ve told him it was a silly thing to do. The place is a bit dilapidated and crowded. First thing tomorrow, I’m moving him into the guest room. It would be a temporary arrangement. His wife is expected in a couple of months, and, until she arrives, he has a home with us.”
Rita beamed her approval and, when I cornered Musibau later on and asked him of the rationale behind his moving in with a married couple, he saw no problems at all. “You don’t understand,” he tried to assure me, “Gboye is not only my best mate, he’s like a blood brother. We went back a long way and we’d shared a lot of things in the past. We even lived together once with our girlfriends. No problem at all,” I shrugged. Who was I to put a spanner in any works? Musibau eventually moved in, and I’d seen him with his hosts at parties and they seemed to get on well.
Too well, if you’d asked me. When next I saw Musibau, it was at one of these fancy malls on the Island and he looked as if he was dying for a chat. “Why did you warn me against living with Gboye at my welcome party?”, he asked. Well, why did he want to know now? “I think Rita has the hots for me!” he said, not at all bragging. “My friend has turned into a home body but Rita is the swinging type.
Whenever Gboye refuses to go on an outing with her, she suggests taking me and Gboye instantly agrees. A couple of weeks ago, I was watching the TV late in the night when she joined me on the sofa. She couldn’t sleep, she said, and when the film got really steamy, she placed her hand on my thigh. ‘Do you like me at all?’ she asked. ‘Gboye is my best friend’, I reminded her. She simply got up, said good night with a full kiss on my lips!
I gulped but she’d disappeared to the bedroom. From then on, she gave me knowing looks, even when her husband was around. I became nervous. Rita is an extremely pretty woman but I have my pick of female friends. Only I dare not bring them home because of my friend—he’s a married man after all. I can’t wait for my wife to come back in a month’s time—she’ll save me from making a fool of myself. I shook my head sadly.
Trying to stop a scheming woman, I warned, was like trying to stop a charging vehicle with one hand. My warning came too late. I’d heard Musibau ‘s wife was back and I heaved a sigh of relief. At least, now, Rita would check her randy libido. “She’d already seduced me by the time my wife arrived”, Musibau told me sadly weeks later when he came visiting. “You’re the only one I can confide in.

Liverpool beats Chelsea

Liverpool beats Chelsea

Philippe Coutinho scored twice as Liverpool came from behind to beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge and pile pressure on under-fire manager Jose Mourinho.
The Blues have endured a torrid start to the season – winning just three times – and headed into the game with questions persisting over Mourinho’s future, though Ramires opened the scoring with a fourth minute header.
The Reds hit back, however, with Coutinho curling a brilliant effort past Asmir Begovic from the edge of the box to level the scores prior to half-time.
Coutinho then grabbed his second in the 74th minute, his effort deflecting off John Terry, before Christian Benteke completed the scoring with a low finish from just inside the box 10 minutes later.

70 year old man arrested for impersonating Pres Buhari's Adviser on Defence Matters

A 70-year-old man, Adamu Sule, was arrested by the Police in Abuja for impersonating the Special Adviser to the President on Defence Matters.
